I don’t remember all the horses, except for one I rode at the Rochester International Horse Show: Stevie Wonder. That was his barn name; I cannot remember his show name. I do know that his barn name was a reference to his lack of ability to “see” spots when jumping. (This is not PC but bear in mind that it was back in the day.) Stevie had to be guided, he needed reassurance, and he needed a lot of support.
He was pretty green and I always had a general wariness when I rode him. At that time he was very difficult to collect, but he handled himself well enough over the fences. The oddest part was the way his legs would scatter and scurry under him as you tried to gather and encourage him to move forward.
I would finish a class somewhat breathless, and also somewhat pleased that we were still alive.
