I forget one of my greatest skills until a winter chill blows away the colors of autumn. I am, and I say it with no modesty, a strategic, skilled, and dedicated layer-er of clothing be it wool, silk, cotton, tech-fiber, or Polartec.
I can slip a turtleneck over a turtleneck which is comfortably nestled on top of a t-shirt. After the turtlenecks I might add a sweater, a vest, and even a second vest before putting on my winter coat. I love cozy.
Friends often ask how many layers I’m wearing to gauge what they should wear.
“In total, or just on top?”
Because there have been days when I wear stockings, then long underwear, and then jeans. It’s a heat issue. I live in a cold, damp climate, and I love the cold weather, but I hate being cold.
You can laugh if you want, but I will walk out in the cold and enjoy the crisp beauty and the achingly fresh air, and I will be warm.
